There was noticeable timid resumption of school activities Monday in parts of the troubled South West region.
Few learners were spotted early Monday morning heading to School.
In Buea, the gates of most schools remained closed.
“I went to school to pay my fees but the gate is locked”, a female student of a private school in Buea told local reporters.
The Government Bilingual High school Bokwango, Bilingual Grammar School Molyko and few others private schools received students on day one of school resumption.
Students also received lectures in mission schools like Presbyterian comprehensive high school Buea.
In Meme division still in the South West region, streets, schools, offices and other business centres remained deserted.
Despite a massive campaign for schools to resume in Meme division, inhabitants including civil servants opted to respect Monday traditional ghost town imposed by separatist fighters since 2017.
A resident of Kosala quarter in Kumba mentioned that “…some schools in Meme division will not resume even after one year. This is because there have long been destroyed with no rehabilitation work carried out.”
The people are questioning what the reconstruction committee headed by Minister Paul Tasong has achieved since put in place by the president of the Republic.
It was a similar situation in Muyuka, Ekona, and a greater part of Libialem division.
In Limbe; capital of Fako division, school activities were in full gear with many students preparing for end of year examinations in attendance.
