Cameroon to receive 100,000 COVID-19 jabs from China

Cameroon has revealed plans to receive 100,000 COVID-19 vaccines from its ally, China.

The vaccines, less than half of the total amount it intends to receive, the country’s health minister says, will be used just in case of extreme necessity.

Minister Manaouda Malachie announced the reception of a stock of the vaccine following a recent surge in the number of positive cases recorded in the central African state.

Though free from the new variant of the virus, Cameroon continues to witness new cases daily.

The ministry of health recently placed the bed occupancy rate at 7.23%, a rise from 5%.

The number of active cases, it noted, stands at 2,672, out of the 35,714 positive cases nationwide.

With schools having resumed fully across the country and everything almost back to normal, the government has emphasized the need to uphold measures against spreading the virus more than ever before.

Many however say the lack of follow-up on the call is responsible for the recent increase in the rate of COVID-19 infections.
