Cameroon University Games: UB, UBa grab 10 out of 62 medals won on day two

The University of Buea (UB), is sixth on the medal table of the ongoing University Games in Ngoundere, with six medals, while the University of Bamenda (UBa), is in the 11th position with four medals.

While UB has one Gold, two Silver, and one Bronze, UBa has two Silver and two Bronze. The two Anglo-Saxon institutions are among 22 universities gathered in Ngaoundere for the 23rd edition of the All University Games that started on Saturday, April 29.

A total of 62 medals have been won on the second day of the games, and the University of Yaounde I is topping the chart with nine – six Gold, two Silver, and a Bronze.

It is followed by Siantou University Institute, which has three Gold, two Silver, and two Bronze.

So far, 15 out of 22 participating universities have at least a medal, while seven are still without any.

The University of Buea, the oldest Anglo-Saxon university in Cameroon, kickstarted the games on Saturday with a stunning performance, winning all matches except one.

On Sunday, it won four out of eight matches played.

In the Sunday matches, UB thrashed the University of Bertoua 1-0 in Football Boys and humbled the University of Yaounde I with the same score in Football Girls.

In Volleyball Girls, they defeated hosts University Ngoundere 3-1 but were humbled at 1-3 by the University of Garoua in Volleyball Boys.

UB suffered another defeat from the University of Dschang in Handball Girls but beat the University of Bamenda 27 – 23 in Handball Boys.

The University of Buea is among 22 higher education institutions participating in the games. Over 4,000 people are present for the games, including 3,151 athletes and fans.

UB’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Horace Ngomo Manga, and his three Deputy Vice Chancellors are among the scores who constitute the UB delegation to the games.

Addressing players and athletes on Friday, Prof Ngomo Manga said he will be there to support them until the games end on May 6.

This is the 23rd All University Games, an annual sports event where Cameroonian Universities compete in multiple sports.
