Cameroonian Academic Dr. Nelson Agbor to Deliver Keynote at Global Children and Youth Conference in London

Dr. Nelson Agbor, a Cameroonian academic and Lecturer in Law at the University of Northampton, has been invited to deliver a keynote address at the 8th Global Conference on Children and Youth, which will take place in London from 15–17 July 2027.

The conference is an international academic forum meant to promote research, policy, and practice on the rights, wellbeing, and futures of children and young people.

Speaking to MMI News, Dr. Agbor described the invitation as a major opportunity for him to contribute to global conversations on the plight of children and youth in conflict-affected regions.

“It is a real privilege to contribute to an international academic forum dedicated to advancing research, policy and practice on the rights, wellbeing and futures of children and young people,” he told MMI News.

“I look forward to engaging with scholars, practitioners, and policymakers worldwide and contributing to these important conversations on the Anglophone Crisis in Cameroon.”

Dr. Agbor will speak on the topic: “Growing Up in the Crossfire: Children, Youth and the Human Cost of Armed Conflict in Africa – Lessons from Cameroon’s Anglophone Crisis.”

The lecture comes nearly a decade into the armed conflict in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions, which, according to United Nations figures, has claimed more than 6,000 lives, displaced hundreds of thousands, and disrupted the education of over 700,000 children.

A Spotlight on the World’s Most Neglected Crisis

Dr. Agbor’s keynote address will be particularly significant because the Anglophone Crisis was named the world’s most neglected displacement crisis by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in June 2026.

The designation indicated the international community’s limited attention to a conflict that has quietly devastated communities in Cameroon’s North West and South West regions.

By bringing the crisis to a global academic platform, Dr. Agbor’s presentation is expected to further spotlight the humanitarian catastrophe and renew calls for international engagement, policy attention, and sustainable solutions towards ending the conflict.

Who Is Dr. Nelson Agbor?

Dr. Nelson Agbor is an interdisciplinary law scholar, legal educator, and researcher specialising in international human rights law, public law, constitutional law, and humanitarian law.

He is currently a Lecturer in Law at the University of Northampton, after previously teaching at Birmingham City University and The University of Law in the UK.

He has enormous higher education experience and has taught undergraduate and postgraduate law courses and contributed to curriculum development, assessment, moderation, dissertation supervision, and academic quality assurance.

He is noted for his student-centred teaching approach, which focuses on simplifying complex legal concepts while developing students’ analytical, research, and practical legal skills.

Dr. Agbor holds a PhD in Law from the University of Plymouth, UK.

He has previously researched human rights protection in crisis-hit regions, notably the Anglophone conflict in Cameroon.

His research interests include human rights and humanitarian law, refugee and asylum law, conflict studies, governance, and the Responsibility to Protect (R2P).

The 8th Global Conference on Children and Youth will bring together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers from around the world to examine the most pressing issues facing children and young people today.

Dr. Nelson Agbor’s participation means the Anglophone Crisis, and the hundreds of thousands of children affected by it, will be part of the conversation.
