Cameroonian celebrities Salatiel, Blanche Baily condemn murder of Martinez Zogo, call for justice

By David Atangana

Cameroonian celebrities; Salatiel and Blanche Baily, have joined calls for justice to be served for slain journalist, Martinez Zogo.

In separate reactions Sunday, January 29, 2023, the Cameroonian singers condemned the barbaric act noting that no human deserves such treatment.

According to Salatiel “Nobody deserves what was done to Martinez Zogo and He is not the first of this kind. Many like him have been silenced”

“For every journalist that is killed, many other people are pressured to silence”, Salatiel said in a Facebook post.

Paying homage to the slain journalist, the celebrity added his voice to the many calls made for justice to take its course.

“Our prayers to the family and colleagues, let there be justice
R.I.P #martinezzogoforever”.

On the other hand, Blanche Baily, a Cameroonian female singer noted that Journalists play a central is society’s well-being and deserve respect.

“Journalism plays a vital role in our society,” Blanche Baily said adding, “Journalists should be respected. Justice for Martinez Zogo.”

Zogo worked as station manager of the privately owned radio, Amplitude FM, near his home in the capital city of Yaoundé.

He was reportedly abducted at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, by unidentified men.

He was later found dead under unclear circumstances on January 21, 2023.

It should be recalled that calls have been multiplying for a judicial inquiry since Zogo’s death was announced with fingers pointing at some well-placed personalities within the current system.

Though Communications Minister, Rene Emmanuel Sadi promised judicial investigations, claiming that concrete measures are being taken to bring perpetrators to book, recent updates indicate that the Biya regime has resorted to intimidation tactics, which questions their real intentions.
