Cameroonian Judoka, Marie Céline Baba Matia Clinches Gold at African Junior Championships.

Cameroonian judoka Marie Céline Baba Matia emerged victorious, claiming the coveted gold medal in the women’s 52kg category. This remarkable achievement took place at the 2023 African Junior Judo Championships, held in Antananarivo, Madagascar. 

Matia’s exceptional performance showcased her unwavering commitment to excellence, solidifying her status as a rising star in the world of judo.

Matia emerged victorious in the final match against Tunisia’s Fatma Omrani. This triumph came on the heels of an impressive victory over Egypt’s Farah Abdellatif in the semi-finals.

The 19-year-old is a rising star in Cameroonian judo, and she is hoping to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Matia’s gold medal is a major boost for Cameroonian judo, and it is a sign that the country is producing some of the best young judokas in Africa.

“I am very happy to have won the gold medal,” said Matia. “This is a dream come true for me, and I am so proud to represent Cameroon.”
