Cameroonian Senator Paulette Bisseck Dies of Illness in Paris

Cameroonian Senator Paulette Bisseck died on Friday, June 30, 2023, in Paris, France, after a long illness as announced by Marcel Niat Njifenji, president of the senate. She was 65 years old. This comes exactly a week after another newly elected Senator Mireille Adare Gassawily, passed away on June 22, 2023.

Bisseck was a longtime member of the Cameroonian Senate, representing the South Region. She was also a member of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM).

Bisseck was born in the town of Ebolowa, Cameroon, in 1958. She studied law and political science at the University of Yaounde and worked as a lawyer before entering politics.

She was elected to the Senate in 2004 and served in the upper house of parliament for two terms. She was also a member of the CPDM’s Central Committee.

Bisseck was a strong advocate for women’s rights and social justice. She was also a vocal critic of corruption and human rights abuses in Cameroon.

She leaves behind a husband, children and grandchildren.

Bisseck’s death is a loss to Cameroon and to the African continent. She was a dedicated public servant who fought for the rights of all Cameroonians. She will be remembered for her courage, her determination, and her commitment to making Cameroon a better place.

A state funeral will be held for her with date still to be announced.
