Cameroonian woman appointed Director of Airtel Madagascar

A Cameroonian woman and microfinance expert, Anne Catherine Tchokonte, has been appointed Director General at the Madagascar-based Indian telecommunications giant, Airtel.

The announcement comes as she officially takes over from Eddy Kampala, who has held the office since April 2019.

Anne Catherine Tchokonte, the former Director General of Orange Money Cameroun, brings to Airtel over a decade of professional experience.

Trained as an engineer and a graduate of the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique des Ponts et Chaussées in France, she further solidifies her credentials with expertise in microfinance from the Frankfurt School.

Her career journey has been characterized by a variety of roles and significant contributions.

Before her role at Orange Money Cameroun, Tchokonte served as a strategic marketing analyst at Areva, gaining valuable insights in the realm of strategic marketing.

She extended her influence across the Middle East and Africa before assuming the position of Business Development Manager at OCP Africa.

The French African Foundation announced Catherine Tchokonte’s inclusion among the 100 Young Leaders in 2023 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments.

As news of her appointment broke, social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory messages, celebrating her accomplishments and expressing pride in her representation of Cameroon on the international stage.

“Congratulations, Madam, and I wish you success in your new role. It is Cameroon that shines through you,” remarked a Cameroonian social media user, echoing the sentiments of numerous well-wishers.

Anne Catherine Tchokonte’s legacy at Orange Money Cameroun continues as she passes the torch to William Nlembe.
