Cameroonian woman buried in Tunisia on her way to Europe
A video surfaced online showing a Cameroonian woman being buried after she died in a desert while trying to reach Europe.
A woman named Emmanuela worked as a businesswoman in Douala, the commercial capital of Cameroon.
In a video in the desert, men are seen burying her in the same dress she wore for the journey.
The men predominantly spoke French and complained about the lack of identity for her.
She journeyed across the desert in Tunisia when death caught up with her.
Emmanuela, as MMI has learned, used all the savings from her business to embark on a greener pasture abroad.
However, she is not the first Cameroonian to have died in the desert trying to make her way to the West.
Two months ago, the French media organ Le Monde reported how Cameroonian migrants were intercepted at sea trying to reach Europe.
This is happening at a time when President Paul Biya is begging citizens to stay.
Earlier this year, reports indicated that between December 2023 and February 2024, more than 6,000 Cameroonians left the country for the west to seek better lives.
The unfortunate situation of Emmanuela explains the ordeals many go through trying to better their lives elsewhere because of poverty, unemployment, and the high cost of living in Cameroon.
