Cameroonians Bash Constitutional Council For Jettisoning All Electoral Litigations

Cameroonians have castigated the Constitutional Council (CC) for throwing away all petitions leveled against the 2018 presidential elections.

In somewhat an unprecedented scene, the CC dumped all 18 petitions filed in by four candidates calling for either the partial or total cancelation of the October 7, 2018 presidential elections.

The CC President, Justice Clement Atangana, rejected the litigations that they were either unfounded or lacked enough evidence.

Meanwhile, many Cameroonians have expressed total distrust for the CC, saying it merely fulfilled righteousness by holding the session. According to them, the CC held its session with a readymade judgement, that of giving the present status quo another opportunity to continue its activities.

“The Constitutional Council has clearly demonstrated today that the ordinary Cameroonian cannot have trust in the judicial system in place. All petitions thrown out just because the Council members all think it should be outrightly thrown out even without heeding to the fine arguments of facts raised by the petitioners, sometimes even without a ratio decidendi. But the caveat is that, when people see that they can no longer to the courts and obtain justice, they will easily take the law into their hands. The biased ruling of the Constitutional Council seems to be fuelling the sparks that we have already been seeing and this is just how a bush fire starts,” lamented Banyong Fonyam (Esq)

Many said that, members of the CC, only provided at the litigation ground, what they were authorised by the person who appointed them.
“From every indication, this CC is just hearing these litigations for hearing sake…The system is a criminal system. At the end it will all favour the incumbent. There is no democracy in this country! I have always said that any functioning body put in place to oversee delicate issues in this country is failures to suit the strong man. A very bad system. How can people bring in a petition knowing it was brought late? Why not return it when it was late? Does it mean that the content of the complains cannot help repair the bad system? How can illegal members be allowed because bla bla bla!!! I am just ashamed of the system. My heart beats for the future is pregnant,” Inocent Yuh said.

Meanwhile, the gesticulations of three presidential candidates: Akere Muna, Joshua Osih, and Maurice Kamto hours after the Constitutional Council (CC), threw away all 18 litigations filed in, have been on the binocular of many opinion holders.

While Akere Muna of the Now Movement, has lambasted the CC for its partial judgement, Joshua Osih for his part, continue to weep for the bleak future that looms ahead.
Meanwhile, Maurice Kamto of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM), continue to keep a suspicious calm, while many look up to what he will say in the coming days.

Whatever be the case, it is very paramount to indicate that the outcome of the 2018 presidential elections may likely have a pyramidal effect on the country’s future. The level of political renaissance that characterised the 2018 polls, is prove of the fact that many Cameroonians are on their guard, hoping to witness nothing short of transparency and change.

One may arguably say; Cameroon’s future is pregnant with uncertainties.
