Candidates express frustration as GCE exams postponed to August 6

The written phase of the Cameroon General Certificate of Education, GCE, Exams 2019/2020 session will start on Thursday, August 6 and end on August 25.

Before this, the practical session of some subjects will run from July 20 to August 5.

One month to the start of the written phase, candidates are still frustrated.

According Rakiatou Yayah, candidate for the Ordinary Level examination, “we are confused because we don’t have individual time table. As compared to other sessions, the individual time table for each candidate was supposed to be available by now.”

Secondary school teachers think the unavailability of individual time tables for candidates as of June 6, 2020 is a problem for potential invigilators.

According to Remmy Penga, secondary school teacher in Tombel- South West region of Cameroon, “school authorities haven’t said anything and invigilators are waiting to see whether there will be any directives on how the exams will unfold before August 6th.

At the moment, candidates are focusing on revision as a greater part of exam syllabuses have not been covered.

“After staying in the house for sometime due to the spread of coronavirus pandemic, most students have become lazy in their academic work,” Penga adds.

The 2019/2020 session of the GCE examination has witnessed several postponements as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The examination will take place this year in a context of a health crisis marked by COVID-19.
