Celebrate Diversity and Creativity: International Francophonie Day!

International Francophonie Day is celebrated annually on March 20th. French Language Day marks an important occasion for Francophones worldwide. March itself is designated as Francophonie Month, dedicated to honouring the French language and culture. So, if you’re reading this, “bonne journée de la francophonie” to you as well!

International Francophonie Day, known as Journée internationale de la Francophonie in French, is observed across the 77 member states of the International Organisation of La Francophonie every March 20th. The day serves as a celebration of the French language and Francophone culture, with over 369 million French speakers globally.

Celebrating La Francophonie entails recognising the potential of language and culture to unite people, fostering spaces of solidarity and mutual understanding, and contemplating a shared future together.

On the occasion of International Francophonie Day, France reiterates its commitment to promoting the French language and showcasing the diverse Francophone cultures worldwide. This commitment extends to upholding values such as openness, solidarity, and respect for diversity, all of which will be celebrated at the 19th Francophonie Summit. France will host this summit in 2024, in close collaboration with the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).

Scheduled for October in France, the Francophonie Summit will revolve around the theme “Create, innovate, undertake in French.” This theme underscores the numerous opportunities available within the Francophone world while encouraging creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship as catalysts for job creation.
