The Mayor of Biyouha, a town in the Centre of Cameroon, Mbombog Ngue Ngue, has seized a convoy of timber trucks for illegally exploiting and transporting timber.
The trucks were seized on the night of April 21 to 22, stated the Mayor in a communique.
On the said night, the Mayor conducted an operation that led to the seizure of several trucks of timber, which were taken to the Municipal pound.
“According to initial information, around 92 timber trucks were illegally removed in less than three weeks in this town,” reveals an MMI reporter.
Meanwhile, those suspected of illegal logging have been handed over to the competent authorities.
Illegal logging of timber, Mayor Mbombog Ngue said, not only deprives the Council of huge sums of money, but also contributes to the deterioration of the public road.
