Chad: Interim Government Declares War on FACT Rebels

Days after the burial of deceased President of the Republic of Chad, Idriss Deby Itno, the Interim Government in place has now declared an open war to combat the FACT rebels advancing down south from the North.

The military regime in place now has made it clear to all by declaring that ; “We do not negotiate with outlaws” after a plea was sent by the Chadian Transitional Military Council calling for negotiation for cessation of hostilities with the FACT rebels.

In a televised statement made by the regime on April 25, it reinforced its stance towards the aspirations of the rebels and the future of the nation, stating clearly that no sort of compromise was going to be considered whatsoever.

“We are facing a situation that puts Chad in danger. This is not the time for negotiation or mediation with outlaws” said Army Spokesperson Azem Bermendao Agouna.

A day before the military statement, the insurgents had made it public that they were ready to negotiate with the military junta in order to arrive at a ceasefire.

The military regime in response to this has rather called for the Niger Republic to help capture some of the rebels and bring them to justice.
