CHAN: Cameroon-DRC quarter-finals match to be put on hold?

There seems to be an impasse over today’s African Nations Championship, CHAN quarter-final game between Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC.

This comes after the DRC side reportedly had 12 players test positive for Covid-19.

Another 13 cases were recorded in the squad, leaving just 8 able players.

The DRC team has denied the test results, asking that an ‘independent’ test be carried out again to ascertain the players’ conditions.

Writing in support of its team, the Congolese Football Association Federation cited the example of the squad’s head coach, Florent Ibenge who had tested positive since January 19 but negative after 8 days of treatment.

“… The Laquintinie hospital in Douala according to our findings is not even approved by CAF to test these specimens,” the federation added.

With the DRC squad smelling foul play and being unable to partake in tonight’s game, it remains unclear what the next course of action would be as all eyes look up to the Confederation of African Football, CAF for a solution.
