CHAN: Morocco travels to Limbe on match day

The Intermediate Atlas Lions of Morocco are due to leave Douala in the Littoral Region to Limbe in the South West Region of Cameroon at 4:00pm local time ahead of a semifinal match against the Intermediate Lions of Cameroon that begins at 8:00pm.

After securing a semifinal ticket at the Japoma Stadium in Douala last week, Morocco has not traveled to Limbe to prepare for the crucial encounter.

According to the team, the laws of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, permits a team to arrive the host city on the day of a match.

The decision of the Atlas Lions contradicts that of their opponents, the Intermediate Lions of Cameroon that have been in Limbe since Monday, February 1st, 2021.

Though no official reason of insecurity has been stated by Morocco, commentators say the precarious security situation in the South West Region of Cameroon marked by the war of independence by separatists fighters may have scared Morocco, making them not to spend a night in Limbe.

As Morocco prepares to travel by road from Douala to Limbe from 4:00pm Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021, the Governor of the South West, Bernard Okalia Bilai told the press that all security arsenals have been put in place for a hitch match.

Two local bombs have been exploded in Limbe since the beginning of the African Football Championship in Cameroon on the 16th of January 2021.
