CHRDA condemns attack on CDC workers

The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy, CHRDA has released a statement denouncing the recent attack on CDC workers in Tiko by armed men suspected to be separatist fighters.

“Official figures from the CDC authorities reveal that five (5) tappers were ruthlessly beaten while a tractor driver’s face was battered with a machete. Four other persons were abducted by the assailants and are yet to return home” the statement reads.

“CHRDA is horrified by this new wave of attack on CDC workers in TIKO and condemns these atrocities in the strongest possible terms. Such attacks on unarmed civilians is a breach of International Law and deserves condemnation” it stated.

“CHRDA calls on the armed men to immediately release all persons abducted at the plantation and calls on the belligerents to cease from committing human rights atrocities” it adds.

The attack comes as the second of its kind following the
one on January 2nd 2019. The attacks many say are aimed at punishing the workers for daring to resume work at the plantation against the wish of separatist fighters.

CHRDA is one of several human rights groups that has continuously condemned violence in the Anglophone regions of the country, calling for inclusive dialogue as a the solution to the crisis.
