Circulation stalled as separatists attack Bali army post

Activities in the town of Bali, in Mezam, Cameroon’s North West region have almost come to a complete halt following gunfire this Sunday morning.

Reports say separatist fighters attacked a military control post, leaving the town in fear and road users in confusion.

A witness and traveller in the area told MMI that: “the separatist fighters attacked the military at a control point. Right now as I write, bullets are flying all over the place.”

The traveller further narrates: “… we were the next bus to be checked before the attack. I fear for the passengers who were already at the point. They were caught in the gun fire”.

“Buses,” the eyewitness adds, “reversed and are standing at the T-Junction waiting for the outcome.”

The incident has since left several passengers headed for Bali, Mamfe, Eyomojoc and Ekok from Bamenda Town, stranded.

Today’s gun battle is one of many others that have left the country’s English speaking regions handicapped for over four years today.

Despite the ever increasing loss of lives and the millions in need of aid, government and separatists have failed to reach a consensus — leaving innocent civilians to bear the brunt.
