City maintain pressure at top of English Premier League, overrun Klopp’s flaky Liverpool 4-1

Manchester City’s focus is unwavering as they continue to maintain pressure on Arsenal at the top of the English Premier League.

City won a comeback victory over Liverpool by the score of 4-1. After a swift counterattack, the Reds took the lead in the first half thanks to a goal scored by Salah, who blasted the ball into the top corner.

After that, just ten minutes later, Alvarez responded quickly to tap in Grealish’s low cross to bring one back for his team.

The second half was all City, as De Bruyne gave them the lead just 53 seconds after the beginning of play to give them the advantage.

After Alvarez’s shot was stopped, Gundogan pounced on the rebound to pick out the top corner for their third goal, and then Grealish finished it off with a curling finish into the bottom-most corner of the net.

This is the first time that Liverpool have lost eight games on the road in the Premier League in a single season since 2014-15 (when they also lost 8) and it is the same number of games that they have lost on the road in all three of their prior seasons combined.

This was Man City’s 128th Premier League match played at the Etihad Stadium, and it was Pep Guardiola’s team’s 100th home win in the Premier League during his tenure as manager (D16 L12). It is the quickest time ever for a manager to reach 100 home wins in the competition, besting the previous record held by Arsène Wenger of 139 games.

This is the first time since February 2021, that Liverpool was defeated after they opened the scoring in a Premier League match. Until today, they were undefeated in the previous 44 games of this type (W39 D5), winning the previous 22 games in a row.
