City win first ever UCL with 1-0 defeat of Inter Milan, completes famous treble

Manchester City won the Champions League for the first time with a 1-0 victory over Inter at the Ataturk Olimpiyat, completing a famous treble that includes the Premier League and FA Cup.

Rodri scored the sole goal for Pep Guardiola’s team in the 68th minute, looping a strike home.

Ederson had to make two spectacular saves to keep his side in the game, first denying Romelu Lukaku and then Robin Gosens towards the finale, while Inter also hit the crossbar through Federico Dimarco.

City held on to win their first European title, capping off an extraordinary season for Guardiola and his players.

Manchester City is the sixth English team to win the European Cup/UEFA Champions League, following Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Nottingham Forest – twice as many as any other country (3 – Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands).

It is Pep Guardiola’s second treble, making him the only manager in history to achieve it with two separate clubs (Barcelona in 2008-09 and Manchester City in 2022-23).

The last four UEFA Champions League finals have all been decided by a 1-0 scoreline (Bayern Munich in 2019-20, Chelsea in 2020-21, Real Madrid in 2021-22, and Manchester City in 2022-23), which is more than in the competition’s first 27 finals since its rebranding in 1992 (3).
