Construction Works On Entrance To Bamenda Imminent

By Timfuchi Aaron

An official of Edge Construction Company Company, Dr. Kum Ivan, has disclosed the imminent start  of works on  the stretch of road from Welcome to Bamenda to Total Filing Station.

Kum   made the announcement in a recent interview on CRTV Bamenda.

The works he said, is the fruit of a partnership between the Bamenda City Council and the Ministry of Housing, Town Planning and Urban Development.

The project cost, according to Kum, stands at 1.7 billion FCFA.

“All the drainage systems have already been realised. And now we are already doing the leveling before we get to the tarring”, Kum said.

While stating that the project could last  12 months, Kum reiterated  that  in his company has clear contract terms that give them the go-ahead to tar the road.

Edge Construction Company has been the lone company doing effective work on the said road. This has been so since the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi announced the construction of the Bamenda-Babajou stretch of the road.

The  Bamenda-Babadjou road  contract  has been awarded to three countries.

The project within Bamenda covering 2.8km it should be noted, is not part of the Bamenda-Babadjou road project which is said to be in a deplorable state.

The issue of roads leading to the North West regional capital, Bamenda and even roads within the city of Bamenda  has remained a nightmare. Last week, over  five public transport cars were involved in accidents  particularly  head-on collision on the said road.

Several  persons were injured and cars destroyed  alongside  property in these accidents.
