Convenors of Anglophone General Conference say crisis in NW, SW can only be resolved by Cameroonians

Organisers of Anglophone General Conference (AGC) have pointed accusing fingers on the government of Cameroon for being the author of the riots at the Yaounde central prison in kondengui and Buea central prison this week.

To the AGC , Cameroon’s poor judicial system of months and years of pre- trial detention has congested prisons in Cameroon thereby building a fertile ground for violence. Beside, the inhumane treatment of inmates and detainees they say provoked the riot.

To resolve this, the meeting presided by Cardinal Tumi has called on the government of Cameroon to grant general amnesty to all political prisoners arrested in connection with the Anglophone crisis.

AGC conveners decry alarming human tight violations in Anglophone regions

The group believes this will pave the way for dialogue.
On how to resolve the crisis, the Anglophone General Conference says only Cameroonians can solve the problem and not foreigners. It stresses that countries and other international organizations coming in should only play a supervisory role and ensure that decisions taken are well implemented for peace to reign.

Meeting in Buea Wednesday July 24th 2019, the Cardinal Tumi led meeting decried the continuous human and material damages recorded on daily basis in the North West and south west regions of Cameroon.

Coveners of the Anglophone general conference say the tension is causing a lot of physical and psychological pain on Anglophones in the two restive regions. AGC cites sexual violence in women and girls in the North West and South West regions.

In the domain of material destruction,AGC named the shutting down of the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC and PAMOL in the south west region as some of the glaring cases of economic destructions as a result of the war.

In the midst of the war,AGC has denounced the prolonged closure of schools in the Anglophone regions but failed to take a stand concretely if the body wants schools to resume for the 2019/2020 academic year.

They have meanwhile applauded the effort of the North West South West Women’s Task Force that has joined the team of conveners.
