Could this be Cavaye’s end at the National Assembly 49 years after?

Over the weekend, it was reported that Hon. Cavaye Yégui Jibril might have reached the end of the road, after serving for 49 years as a Member of Parliament, with a quarter of a century spent as Speaker of the National Assembly.

This was after a supposed list of CPDM party Candidates from his Mayo origin excluded his name.

While some quarters hold the list as fake, others say the 74-year old speaker may be reserved for something better. Regardless of the reason however, many speculate his replacement may be from the English Speaking regions. This many say may be a form of appeasement for Anglophones who have often cried foul with top positions at all level of government and state affairs.

Another possibility should Cavaye be left out is that the Anglophone Crisis may finally be discussed in Parliament. The crisis which started in 2016 has never been discussed in Parliament, not even under pressure from the likes of Honourable Wirba of Jakiri. A new speaker of the National Assembly may likely give the chances, especially with the current state of affairs with the government seeking to end the war.

Regarding Cavaye’s legacy, it is hard to ascertain that it has been so smooth, especially as he seems to have been vomited by his own people at the tail end despite the possibility of having him stay to aid them cope with the recurrent threats and attacks from the Boko Haram terrorist group.
