Chief Njie Mandengue Buea sentence for grabbing land
A court in Buea has jailed the traditional ruler of Wonjia village, near Buea.
Njie Mandengue who served as Secretary General of the Fako Chiefs Conference was sentenced to one year imprisonment and to pay a fine of 500,000 FCFA.
The verdict of the trial fell recently. He was found guilty of fraud.
The judgement said “in default of payment, he shall serve an additional 18 months imprisonment per section 564 (1) (g) of CPC.”
Though sentenced in absentia, the court has since opened a manhunt for the jailed traditional ruler.
He is currently wanted by security forces for crimes committed between 2004 and 2020.
Chief Mandengue escaped his palace about two years ago when a court verdict in a Fako Court found him guilty of serial crimes including land grabbing, double dealing amongst others.
He is said to have since been shuttling between Yaounde and Mbalmayo in the Centre Region.
We gathered that a fresh legal battle had been opened against him.
He is accused of selling land belonging to the Bakweri Cooperative Union.
Our findings indicate, he collected huge sums from a woman for the same piece of land.
