COVID-19: Government stays silent over places of worship as bars, clubs and restaurants go operational

Christians and Muslim faithfuls in Cameroon still have unanswered questions of what becomes of their places of worship.

In a 19 point document made public Thursday April 30th 2020, lifting some COVID-19 restrictions and other advantages to help boast the economy, nothing has been mentioned concretely about places of worship.

Government stresses on the reopening of bars, drinking spots and other leisure places after 6 pm. The second point of the document lifts a ban limiting people in public transport while insisting that the wearing of face masks remains compulsory.

Earlier, the Divisional Officer for Douala 4 banned all church services and Mosques in the Sub Division as a means to maintain social distancing and limit the spread of coronavirus.

Some churches and Mosques have been receiving worshippers of less than fifty. With the silence of the government on what Churches and Mosques should do at the moment, some faithfuls say they will go along with service while respecting the measures of washing hands and wearing of face masks .
