COVID-19: Inadequate basic necessities hindering respect of preventive measures

Prof. Claude Abe has accused the government of Cameroon of failing to put in place necessary conditions for citizens to respect COVID-19 measures.

On the program “Canal Presse” on Canal 2 International television Sunday, March 14, 2021, the sociologist posits that the absence of potable water in several parts of Cameroon for weeks and sometimes months is a major handicap to the respect of COVID-19 preventive measures.

The university don says by organizing the African Football Championship (CHAN) in January and February 2021 and authorizing several musical concerts when COVID-19 was still a threat, the government has participated in the worsening COVID-19 situation in Cameroon.

Speaking on the same panel, Prof. George Alain Boyomo, director of epidemics and pandemics at the ministry of public health refuted allegations that the ministry is failing to properly address the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Cameroonians should focus on respecting COVID-19 measures while medical doctors focus on the new variants of COVID-19,” he said.

Regarding the COVID-19 vaccine to be taken by Cameroonians, the minister of public health says no scientific study has proven that the vaccine Astrazeneca is toxic though some countries have suspended its use. Dr. Manaounda Malachie adds that the war of lobby is on as concerns COVID-19 vaccines.

Cameroonians are questioning the effectiveness of the vaccine that will be taken. Dr. George Alain Etoudi says among all the vaccines circulating, the Astrazeneca vaccine is the most favorable but can still be changed. He debunked rumors that vaccination kills arguing that Africans consume many products from Europe and America without a doubt. He says describing vaccination as ‘poison’ is “mere sabotage”.
