COVID19 frustrates Under 17 AFCON

Members of the Confederation of African Football emergency committee and those of Royal Moroccan Football Federation are in a meeting in Casablanca -Morocco today Monday March 8th 2021 discussing possibilities of hosting the Under 17 African Cup of Nations during this period of COVID 19.

Scheduled to start on Saturday 13 March 2021 in Morocco, several delegations from African counties to participate have been trying to no avail to get to Morocco.

This is because Morocco has tightened its visa policy to stop the spread of COVID-19.

A source has hinted that there are three options on the table for discussion. These include a postponement of the tournament, change of host country or total cancellation by CAF.

At the moment, three out of eleven countries due to take part are in Morocco.

They are Senegal, Zambia and Ivory Coast.

Cameroon’s Under 17 lions continue to train in Yaounde after failing twice to travel to Morocco due to problems of getting visas.

Under 17 AFCON initially programmed to take place in April 2021 was brought forward to March 13th on request of the the host country Moroccan.

All attention is therefore focus on Morocco today for a final decision.
