Cup of Cameroon final:
PWD Bamenda Supporters Accuse City Mayor of Mismanaging fans’ money

By Timfuchi Aaron

Some fans of PWD Bamenda football club have accused the City Mayor of Bamenda, Mezam division of the North West region, Paul Achobong of mismanaging money meant for them at last Sunday’s Cup of Cameroon final.

According to some of them, their trip to Yoaunde was spoiled by Paul Achobong. Some of them told MMI that Minister Felix Mbayu handed a sum of one million FCFA to the City Mayor to share with all those who were returning to Bamenda Monday night.

We gathered that the mayor sidelined his closed collaborators and entered into buses destined for Bamenda where he announced that each supporter will receive 1500 FCFA instead of 2000FCFA as earlier presumed.

After counting all the fans from one bus to another, Achobong said they will receive 1500FCFA each because they were more than 800.l, a number those on the ground said was imaginary.

They said, the fans had stayed back in Yaounde and less than 500 of them were going back to Bamenda.

Later, the fans mobilized and decided not to collect the money. A visibly disappointed Achobong is said to have tried all he could for the fans to receive the money to no avail. He reportedly angrily left the scene. We later gathered that the fans will receive the money upon arrival in Bamenda.
