The death has been announced of the head coach of Cameroon’s national cycling team. Dieudonne Ntep died Monday, May 10th, 2021 in a road accident along the national road number 5 linking the cities of Douala and Yaounde.
Dieudonne Ntep and other officials of the national cycling team were on board a mini bus travelling from Yaounde to Douala when a truck from an opposite direction collided with the mini bus.
The body of 62-year-old Dieudonne Ntep has been deposited in the mortuary while the team’s mechanic, medical officer and driver who sustained severe injuries are receiving medical attention.
Report says they were traveling to Douala to take off for Benin to take part in an international cycling competition.
Dieudonne Ntep before becoming coach of cycling team, participated in the 1984 summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles USA and many other continental and national cycling competitions.
The death of the coach has rekindled debates on how cyclists are treated in Cameroon. To some critics, the state focuses on the national football team while other disciplines are left without major financial support.
