Striking teachers under the banners of the OTS movement are yet to return to the classroom despite assurances by the state to solve their concerns. The teachers have refused to give in to the government’s promises, and say they would only call it off when all their demands have been met.
A 38-year-old woman has been arrested in Nkongsamba, Moungo division of the Littoral region by elements of the Moungo North Gendarmerie for trafficking of ammunition. Local security sources suggested that the lady supplied arms to highway robbers for their operations.
After the OTS and the TCT teacher’s strike, University lecturers have announced plans to strike over unpaid dues. This was revealed by SYNES (Lecturers syndicate) in a recent release. The syndicate revealed that varsity lecturers had sent to the state two prior letters reminding them of the need to fulfill their conditions.
Tickets for Cameroon’s crucial World Cup Qualifier playoff against the Desert Foxes of Algeria are now on sale. Among a host of places, the tickets are available at Tradex Shops in Yaoundé and Douala. The game will be played at the Japoma Stadium in Douala on March 25, 2022.
University teachers are not the only ones threatening a strike action. Transport syndicates have also drawn government’s attention to similar action. They have presented a series of grievances and given government till March 28 to provide solutions.
Government has threatened to act against Equinoxe TV, following a broadcast of popular talk show, Droit de reponse. Littoral governor, Samuel Ivaha today accused the station of fueling popular uprising. Equinoxe TV is renowned for its critical position on government stance as well as its incisive reporting that has never been fancied by regime barons.
Two bills will be examined by the Committee on Finance and the Budget at the National Assembly tomorrow. The session kicks off at 3PM.
The ongoing teachers’strike action is currently in its fifth week. Teachers have remained out of class, and have said they will call off the strike only when government hears their cries. Government on its part has remained persistent, but maintains that payment of money owed teachers will only commence in May.
