Close to ten top management officials of some state corporations have been summoned by the Special Criminal Court. Amongst them are the General Manager of PAMOL, Tapia Mbile, and that of the Cameroon Development Corporation, Franklin Ngoni Njie. The summons comes in less than a month after President Paul Biya said he will crackdown on corrupt officials.



Prof. Theresa Akenji, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bamenda (UBa), has given a few ‘days of grace’ to some students to complete their fees as they sit in for the First Semester Examinations. She did this after many students raised concerns over the challenges they face in writing the exams, with the lack of finances as one of the challenges.


Aliko Dangote, a Nigerian business mogul, has again occupied the highest rung of the richest Africans. He topped an 18-man list of the richest Africans that was released recently by Forbes. It was noted that he has a net worth of 13.9 Billion US Dollars. No Cameroonian is featured in the list.


A 15-year-old boy died in Douala, Littoral Region of Cameroon when he was hit in the head by his friend during a football game. When a scuffle broke out, a brick that was thrown at someone else hit him and he was rushed to the Laquintini Hospital but he passed away.


At the Cameroonian Embassy in Paris, homage was paid to victims of the Livs Nightclub fire incident and those of the Olembe Stadium stampede in Yaounde. A wreath was laid in front of the embassy and a moment of silence was observed for the victims.


University of Bamenda’s final year students frown at extortion from their lecturers before their thesis defense. They complain that they have been compelled to contribute exorbitant amounts for feeding jury members for pre-defense sessions that hold every three months.


The Pharaohs of Egypt have defeated the Elephants of Ivory Coast today to advance to the Quarter Finals of the Africa Cup of Nations currently going on in Cameroon. They won the match through penalty shootouts after the end of regular and extra playing time.


The Indomitable Lions have received their match bonuses for the Africa Cup of Nations after qualifying for the quarter-finals. The Guardian Post newspaper reports that Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Cameroon’s Sports Minister, ordered the disbursement of the bonuses worth 252 million FCFA for each of the 28 players representing Cameroon at the home-based tournament. The lions will seek a pass to the semi-final spot when they face The Gambia next Saturday.
