Senator Marcel Niat Njifenji has been re-elected as the president of Cameroon’s Senate. Senator Marcel was voted by 84 out of the 87 senators present during the vote. The other votes were nulls.
In the same light, Hon Cavaye Yeguie was maintained as speaker of the national assembly in a landslide victory. He floorewd SDF’s Hon Michel Nintcheu who had just one vote. Cavaye therefore maintains his role as house speaker since 1992.
Many have termed Nintcheu’s loss to Hon Cavaye in the National Assembly speaker contest as a betrayal. This is after Nintcheu had just one vote, meaning even his fellow SDF MPs did not vote for him. Ironically, this comes just days after opposition MPs took a commitment to work together.
Information from the Ministry of External Relations says President Paul Biya had ordered for funds to be disbursed to take care of stranded Cameroonians in Ukraine. The order is said to have been issued out over three weeks ago, despite the government’s inexplicable absence. Multiple Cameroonians stranded in the East European nation however say concrete action is yet to be taken.
Dr. Robert Esuka Mbella Endeley was coronated today as the 7th Paramount ruler of Buea. The event took place at the Pala Pala field in Buea town, and was supervised by some traditional rulers of Fako. The official ceremony ends tomorrow with presentation of the new ruler.
At least three persons have died from cholera in the past days in Buea, South West Region. More cases are being detected on daily basis in health districts across the region. Prevention campaigns have been announced by health authorities.
