Davido Pledges ₦300 Million As Annual Commitment to Nigeria’s Orphanages

Renowned Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, better known as Davido or OBO, has once again showcased his unwavering commitment to philanthropy by pledging a staggering ₦300 million to orphanages across Nigeria. Through his David Adeleke Foundation (DAF), the artist aims to make a significant impact on the lives of the nation’s most vulnerable, continuing his annual tradition of giving back.

Davido took to his social media handle to announce the generous donation, stating, “I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria as my yearly contribution to the Nation. Details of disbursement tomorrow,” sparking widespread enthusiasm and admiration from fans worldwide.

The David Adeleke Foundation, established in 2022, has consistently championed educational initiatives and the empowerment of young people. In 2023, the foundation disbursed approximately ₦237 million to 424 orphanages, solidifying its commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of the less fortunate.

This philanthropic gesture is not the first time Davido has rallied support for charitable causes. Before his birthday in November 2021, a playful challenge to his colleagues unexpectedly turned into one of Nigeria’s most significant fundraisers. Within an impressive 78 hours, Davido raised ₦200 million, which he added ₦50 to and swiftly distributed to numerous orphanages across the country.

Beyond the David Adeleke Foundation, Davido has a history of individual acts of kindness, embodying his mantra of “we rise by lifting each other.” From supporting victims of natural disasters to aiding individuals in need of medical care and empowering young entrepreneurs, Davido’s commitment to social responsibility is multifaceted.

In 2023, he donated ₦1 million to a young keke driver to boost his business, demonstrating his dedication to uplifting fellow Nigerians economically. This is just one example of Davido’s commitment to using his platform for positive change.

Davido’s philanthropic endeavors date back to 2017, when he assisted an impoverished young man named Utibe. The artist not only covered Utibe’s education expenses but also built a house for his mother, exemplifying his dedication to eradicating barriers to education and improving living conditions.

In 2018, Davido quietly donated ₦15 million to the staff at Murtala Muhammad International Airport, alleviating the medical expenses of an ailing airport employee. Additionally, he contributed $5,000 to a Rwandan music school, aiming to enhance the quality of music produced in Rwanda and uplift the country’s music industry.

As the details of the ₦300 million disbursement emerge, Davido’s announcement has already sparked hope and appreciation nationwide. Orphanages eagerly await the much-needed support, and individuals from all walks of life commend Davido’s consistent dedication to making a positive impact through philanthropy. His actions serve as a beacon of inspiration, urging others to follow suit and contribute to the betterment of society.
