December 6 Regional Elections: Minister Atanga Nji on security mission in Northern Region

The first-ever regional elections in Cameroon take place in exactly 6 days.
Ahead of the polls, the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji is in the Northern Regions where he is assessing the level of security on the ground as well as executing campaigns for the CPDM candidates in the region.

Despite the Minister’s presence in the Northern regions, the government has always fallen under immense criticisms for having ignored the high insecurity suffered by the inhabitants of the Northern regions, particularly attacks from the Boko Haram terrorist group.

In recent times, the populations of Maroua have suffered several casualties and have seen their properties razed down by constant attacks by the Boko Haram Terrorists.

Many of the inhabitants in these northern regions have fled their homes and are residing on mountain tops and bushes for fear of imminent attacks. For a long while, the populations of the Far North region have been pleading on the government to send the same kind of reinforcement that is deployed to the Northwest and Southwest regions to the Far North regions.

These pleas were largely ignored as attacks and killings in the region have continued.

It had to take the coming of the regional elections for the Territorial Administration Minister to make a security assessment in the region. In his habitual mission of seeking support for the president of the Republic during his visits, Minister Paul Atanga Nji revealed that despite the challenges in these regions, the inhabitants have complete trust in Paul Biya.
“The regions of the Adamawa, the North and the Far North as well as the youths have sent a powerful message that they totally support President Paul Biya and they have confidence that all the infrastructures, and projects put in place will be executed,” he stated.

Atanga Nji also maintained that all traditional leaders are eager to go in for the elections and become the pioneer regional councillors in the regions.
