Defence Minister demands reduction in number of checkpoints along Douala-Maroua Corridor

The minister of defence has ordered the closure of some security checkpoints along the Douala-Maroua corridor.

According to a letter by the minister of Defense to the Minister of territorial Administration, 66 checkpoints have been discovered along the Douala Maroua Corridor.

Amongst the said checkpoints, 39 are said to be irregular checkpoints with 27 regular mixed checkpoints.

This according to the Minister of Defense delays the flow and fluidity of the transportation of poeple and goods.

In a bid to resolve this, the minister of Defense has called for a reduction of intermediate checkpoints on the Douala Maroua corridor and a meeting with the heads of regional branches of all structures represented on the ground.

It should however be noted that the Douala Maroua Corridor is just one out of the numerous corridors where travelers face hell as regards the presence of uncountable checkpoints along the road side.
