Demand for Archbishop Samuel Kleda’s COVID-19 medicine on the rise

Hundreds of people tested COVID-19 positive in Cameroon have been flooding Catholic hospitals in Cameroon to receive free of charge COVID-19 medicine produced by Archbishop Samuel Kleda last year.

The increase in the number of people seeking the medicine, reports say, has doubled since the outbreak of new variants of the novel coronavirus.

Speaking on national radio, Dr. Kameni Engelbert said “…production of the medicine has doubled to meet high demand.”

The only condition to receive the medicine, Dr. Kameni stated, is by showing a COVID-19 positive result. The measure is to stop some Cameroonians who may attempt to collect the medicine and keep in their houses.

Dr. Kameni Engelbert; head of Catholic Health Services in Douala in charge of Kleda’s COVID-19 medicine says more than 200.000 people have been treated of COVID-19 by the medicine since 2020.

As government imposes COVID-19 preventive measures while calling on people to voluntarily take the COVID-19 vaccine when it will be available, Cameroonians have been questioning why the regime of president Paul Biya is reluctant to endorse the medicine produced by Archbishop Samuel Kleda, encourage massive production and safe lives.

In 2020, government sent a delegation of medical experts to the Catholic archbishop in Douala to collect samples of the medicine for medical examination. Since then, no official statement has been issued.
