The detained Muslim scholar, Abdul Karim Ali is scheduled to appear before the Examining Magistrate of the Yaounde Military Court on Monday, March 20, his lead defence lawyer has said.
Barrister Amungwa Tanyi said the peace activist who has been detained since August 2022 will be in court at 9 am alongside two others with whom he is accused of the same crime.
They will be answering charges including hostilities against the State, secession, failure to report and rebellion, Barrister Amungwa Tanyi said.
This will be the first time Karim is being called to answer for charges levied against him.
The 41-year-old was arrested by the gendarme in Bamenda on August 11, 2022, and detained incommunicado for several days without any charge.
He was later transferred to the State Secretariat of Defence in Yaounde before being moved to the Yaounde Central Prison in Kondengui on February 2.
Detained alongside Karim is his cousin, Rabio Enuah, who was arrested in Bamenda on 23 August for being his driver, and Sulemanu Yenkong who was arrested on November 19, 2022.
