Diaspora: Tragic Death of Cameroonian in Canada sparks controversy

The death of Mirreille Djomo in a hospital in Canada has caused wide outrage amongst Cameroonians and other Africans in the North American country.

The hospital officials were accused of extreme negligence and racism which led to her death.

The victim reportedly went herself to the hospital because she suffered from a leg pain. However after days of internment at the hospital, Mirreille Djomo was placed in a split confinement, as she was suspected to have contracted a serious contagious disease.

While Mirreille Djomo felt her strength desert her while in confinement, she made a six-minute video in which she launched a cry of distress.

Mirreille Djomo in the video accused the hospital officials of killing her slowly.

The video soon went viral, arousing indignation and mobilization of Africans residing in Canada. The mobilization caused Mirreille Djomo to be transferred to a jewish hospital in Montreal; but alas, two days after she was admitted at the Montreal Hospital, she passed away.

In the video which Mirreille had released, she accused the personnel at the Canadian hospital of having injected her with Penicillin several times, a medication she said she was allergic to. She said in the video, with conviction, that the doses administered on her was the cause of her rapid health deterioration.

Upon the announcement of Mirreille Djomo’s death, Africans and Cameroonians in Canada mobilized to demand justice for the death a compatriot. The family of the deceased has also appealed to the Canadian authorities against the hospital for Medical Negligence and racist treatment.

An investigation, meanwhile, has been opened to establish the share of responsibility between the nursing staff towards the suspicious death of the Cameroonian.
