‘Distressed’ Kamto calls authorities to order, questions if his residence has become a secondary prison

The leader of the MRC party , Professor Maurice Kamto has since his ‘house arrest’ had very little contact with the outside world.

He has been restricted to just one visit during this period.

However, his lawyers were recently given a rare access to him.

In a phone interview with Journalist Polycarpe Essomba, Kamto laid bare his frustrations of being kept incommunicado in his own house.

“I have been here for a week now, since the night of Sunday 20, 2020. I am locked in my own house, my household and I have been forced to stay here due to an unprecedented deployment of security forces who have promised to arrest anyone who tries going out of the house… has my place become a new detention centre or a secondary prison like the Secretary of State for Defence (SED)” he lamented.

The president of MRC equally expresses his concerns for emergency situations like illnesses and injuries in his house without possibility of evacuation due to the high presence of security forces.

Maurice Kamto told Journalist Polycarp Essomba that he has not been explicitly told why he has been kept under house arrest till date.

“What I’m I being blamed for? It is from my lawyers that I learnt that it is for a speculation that I am the bearer of an insurrectionary project to overthrow the institutions” he said.

“…Is this an investigation? Who can we hear from in my place? Is it a decision to take me into custody? I have no idea…all I have heard so far are charges of Insurrection but to the best of my knowledge, the September 22 marches were absolutely peacefully carried out nationwide”He explained.

It has been widely speculated by Cameroonians now that the government may be planning another arrest on Maurice Kamto as well as completely banning his MRC party from the Cameroon political landscape entirely.

According to the MRC president, the government is simply using the insurrection terminologies as a pretext to justify their ruthless repressions on Cameroonians.

He regrets the lack of concern for citizens by the regime in power as he deems it is ready to do anything to consolidate its grip to power even if it is to the detriment of the people.
