DO of Bafut “abandons” Sub Division after installation

There is no Divisional Officer residing and presiding over administrative affairs in Bafut Sub Division-Mezam Division in the North West of Cameroon.

The new Divisional Officer, Diobe Elumba Didacus installed Tuesday June 30th 2020 unavoidably returned to Bamenda under tight military escort immediately after the installation ceremony that lasted for less than an hour.

The ceremony was marked by sounds of gun shots that scared inhabitants from attending the ceremony.

The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) of Mezam installing the DO of Bafut challenged him to brave insecurity and work out a peace process in the Sub Division. As assigned, the new DO Diobe Elumba Didacus failed same day as he could not spend a night in his new area of work due to insecurity.

Just as the DO quit Bafut Sub Division for security reasons, the Mayor, Councillors and other administrative officers of the Sub Division have taken refuge in Bamenda.

Inhabitants of Bafut have been questioning if the presidential Program for the reconstruction of the North West and South West regions of Cameroon will take place in such an atmosphere of insecurity.

Holding a meeting with the national coordinator of the Presidential reconstruction plan for the North West and South West regions, Ngwakogho Lawrence, Mayor called on the officials to start reconstruction in the domain of education.
