Donga Mantung : Protests underway in Ndu after Mbororo-indigene tensions claim two lives

Two men have been shot dead in the village of Mbipgo found in the Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region.

They are the latest victims of a spate of violence witnessed due to the antagonistic relationship between the Mbororos and indigenes.

The first was attacked at night, dispossessed of his belongings and money, and shot dead.

“Another inhabitant left a neighboring village and was headed for Mbipgo when he met the Mbororos and they shot him too,” a local recounted.

Escalation

The population of Mbipgo, are today Thursday, June 16, 2022, protesting against the killing of the two villagers.

“Mr. Ngala Genesis alias Ngala TK was shot right in his room in Mbipgo and the other person Mr. Tamfu Christian was shot in Kashi near Government Technical college Mbipgo,” a local told MMI adding that, “the youth of Mbipgo attempted to follow them but they fired guns at them and disappeared into the bus on the way to Mbongong”

Following the macabre act, the population of Mbipgo joined those of Seh and Mbohngong and stormed the street in protest with the two corpses, wailing and chanting.

At the time of this report they were marching to the office of the Divisional Officer for Ndu, where according to report, they intend to dump the corpses.

Following the escalation of the Anglophone crisis into an armed conflict, the violence between the Mbororos and many other localities in the affected regions has deteriorated.

This, many say, is partly due to the breakdown in the rule of law and order, as well as the instrumentalisation of the different parties by the forces of law and order.

In many instances, Mbororo cattle headers have been used by the army and administrative authorities to coordinate attacks on villages.

Many accounts attest to them being used during the horrific Ngarbuh massacre in Ndu subdivision.

To date, none has been brought to account.

What in most instances started as minor conflicts between farmers and Mbororo graziers in many localities, has become an integral part of the armed conflict.

Many fear it might get worst, if not contained early enough.
