The Douala City Council has announced that it will demolish more than 40 houses that are considered to be unsafe after a recent spate of buildings collapsed in the city. The collapsed buildings have claimed the lives of dozens of people, and the council says that it is taking action to prevent further tragedies.
The affected houses are located in several neighborhoods in Douala, including Cité Sicam, IPA, Bepanda, and Makepe Missoke. The council says that the houses have been built illegally or without proper permits and that they are in danger of collapsing.
The demolitions are expected to begin as soon as possible with the intention of preventing more deaths.
The population is called upon to avoid lodging or residing in zones at risk because their own safety starts with them.
