A family in Cameroon’s economic capital Douala is mourning the demise of two of its kids who passed away after consuming a common meal.
The incident occurred at Carrefour Lycée in the Bonamoussadi neighborhood, Douala V.
Reports say the kids passed out after consuming pear on the evening of April 27, 2021.
Shortly after consuming the fruit, they are said to have complained of stomach pain only to die later after being rushed to the Bonamoussadi Hospital.
Within the same period, three children who remained at home presented similar symptoms and have been admitted at the Laquinitinie Hospital in Douala. A third is said to be under intensive health care at the Ad Lucem Hospital.
While many suspect food poisoning, the actual cause of their death is yet to be identified.
Security officers have initiated an investigation to find out the cause of the kids’ death.
