Douala: Four family members perish in fire outbreak

Four members of the same family have died in a fire outbreak that ravaged a house at New Bell neighborhood in Douala this Monday, May 22.

The four got trapped in the fire outbreak which also razed the entire house. A neighbor who succeeded to save other members of the family recounted:

“At about one o’clock, the mother woke up screaming, indicating that there was a fire. We all woke up in a panic…There were flames inside. I crossed the little gate that separated us and stood in front of the central door. When we opened the gate, we realize that we could not access the main door.”

He and other well-wishers succeeded to rescue three members of the family and rushed them to the hospital.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene helped to extinguish the flames, but it was too late for save the four who had already been devoured by the fire.

The cause of the fire outbreak is yet unknown.

The police have opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.
