Douala: girl dies in attempt to set father’s house on fire

A young lady has passed away at the Nyalla Pariso Sankara quarter in Cameroon’s economic capital, Douala.

The incident that occurred on Thursday, MMI gathered was after she had a problem with her father who confiscated her phone.

“At around 10AM, she went and bought fuel, entered the father’s room through the ceiling and it set on fire, the father told us in the presence of the commissioner” a source in the neighborhood told MMI.

Another neighbor vividly describes the scene. “She is not even living with her father. Her father is living with her step mother while the girl lives with her mother in the same quarter. Since she has personal issue with her biological father, yesterday morning she told her father ” tu va vois” loosely translated as “you shall see”, she went and ask her breakfast from her biological mother living in different house”. ” The mother gave her 500frs, which she used to buy petrol….entered her father’s room and set the house on fire, ” he added.

The house was partially burned as locals managed to put out the flames. All documents belonging to family members were however lost as a result of the fire.

The girl who is in her twenties died in the flames and was laid to rest yesterday.
