Driver injured as tomato truck tumbles on Bamenda-Mamfe road

A truck driver was injured and significant business losses were incurred in a car accident on the Bamenda-Mamfe road on Wednesday, July 10.

The driver’s identity has not yet been obtained by MMI.

Witnesses reported that the accident was caused by a palm oil spillage on the road, which made the surface extremely slippery.

The truck, loaded with a large quantity of tomatoes destined for neighboring Nigeria, lost control and tumbled on the highway, spilling its entire cargo.

According to an eyewitness account, “no casualty was recorded, but the driver was injured.” The driver was quickly attended to, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The accident resulted in a considerable loss of the truck’s cargo, as the spilled tomatoes were scattered across the road.

Footage obtained by MMI shows people sorting through the remains of the tomatoes, salvaging what they could from the wreckage.

This accident adds to a growing number of road incidents in the national territory over the past two weeks.

These incidents have resulted in several fatalities and millions of francs in material damages.
