Dschang Hill: Yet Another Accident on Infamous Stretch

Another tragic incident occurred yesterday, Wednesday, July 17th, 2024, adding to the growing list of accidents that have plagued the dangerous Dschang Hill stretch. According to reports, there was an incident involving a truck transporting Guinness beverages that overturned due to a poor turn.

Fortunately, there were no casualties in this incident. Nevertheless, this near miss is a powerful reminder of the hazards that exist along this crucial pathway.

Dschang Hill has unfortunately gained a reputation for being associated with tragic accidents. Over the past few weeks, there have been a significant number of accidents resulting in the tragic loss of many lives, which has sparked considerable apprehension regarding the adequacy of safety measures.

This is not new, given that there was the 2021 incident involving a Menoua Voyages bus is a deeply tragic event, marked by a chain of unfortunate circumstances that resulted in the loss of over 50 lives, according to road safety NGO Sécuroute.

There is often a lot of attention given to issues such as faulty vehicle inspections, inadequate emergency response equipment, and a lack of strict enforcement of traffic laws. The high number of road fatalities in Cameroon is largely attributed to systemic failures, with Dschang Hill being a particularly dangerous location.

While fortunate this time, the latest accident highlights the urgent need for action. It is crucial to adopt a comprehensive strategy that encompasses improvement on the road infrastructure, vehicle safety, emergency preparedness, and more stringent traffic regulations in order to effectively transform Dschang Hill from a dangerous accident zone into a secure route.
