A man said to be in his 20s was nabbed and beaten by the mob in Dschang, West Region, for allegedly trying to suffocate a two-year-old child to death.
This happened on Saturday, February 11, as Cameroon celebrated the 57th National Youth Day.
“He tried to take life out of a two-year-old male child. A passerby noticed that this guy was carrying a child wrapped in a bag. The population was notified and he was rounded up with the child seized from him and unwrapped. Thank God the child did not die,” an eyewitness told MMI.
The man is said to have been beaten and forced to confess his intentions, but he refused to do so and did not also say his name.
“He refused to identify himself nor make any statement,” the eyewitness said, adding that he was only rescued from the mob by the police who arrested him.
The accused has not yet reacted.
