Dubai: Nigerian fraudsters hold Cameroonian colleague hostage over disappearance of over one billion FCFA

By David Atangana

A Cameroon is being held hostage by some Nigerians over the disappearance of 1.9 million USD (7 million dirham) they got through Internet fraud.

Both the Nigerians and Cameroonian are reported to be in the same team of online scammers.

The Cameroonian victim, whose name MMI got as Nopin Alex, was reportedly seized by his Nigerian colleagues after another Cameroonian, Foka Romuald Darius, who is also involved in the fraud deal, disappeared with the money the got from the deal.

A source told MMI the Nigerian fraudsters tortured him on December 14 demanding that he discloses the whereabouts of his Cameroonian counterpart who has ran with the money.

Some Cameroonians in Dubai say the young man who is being tortured has a pregnant wife.

“He has been living in Dubai here managing in the bed space with his pregnant wife,” a source in Dubai who has knowledge of the issue told MMI.

He added: “This guy and the friend probably from Cameroon joint a group of Nigerians and they scammed 1.9 million dollars online.”

The whereabouts of Foka Romuald Darius, the man who is said to have disappeared with the money, are yet unknown.

His telephone lines are unreachable, the source in Dubai told MMI.

The life of Alex, his Cameroonian friend, now hangs on a scale as he is being threatened with death if the FCFA 7 million CFA is not brought.

“The Nigerian guys have said, if he does not provide his friend they will kill him and case goes nowhere,” our source went on.
