Dwindling school attendance: Bamenda II Mayor gives out palliatives

Headteachers of schools in the Bamenda II Council area have been called upon to join the crusade of effective school resumption.

The call was made by the mayor of Bamenda II municipality, Peter Chenwi during a ceremony organized to hand over minimum packages to schools in the municipality. The package is made up of books, pens, pencils, and other office materials.

There are 26 government primary schools in the Bamenda II municipality and current statistics show that 16 are functional while 10 are closed.

While handing over the didactic materials to all the school heads, Mayor Peter Chenwi gave them the assignment to promote effective back to school in the locality.

“Some of them don’t want to go to school and we cannot just give because we want to give. That is why we started with this so that we can upgrade in case of improvement”, the mayor told the press.

Most of the headteachers complained of insecurity as a hindrance to smooth teaching.

” We are very insecure. Some of the schools are being used as camps”, one of the headteachers noted.

In addition to the didactic materials, GS Ngomham and Chomba received computers, office chairs, printers, and other office materials.

The council also donated mattresses, a generator, beds, and other medical equipment worth over 6 million francs to the Chomba Integrated Health Centre.
